Jenny Schroeder

RP (qualifying), M.A., B.A.

A passionate and dedicated Registered Psychotherapist with a profound love for mental health and the healing power of nature. With years of experience and a diverse educational background, Jenny brings a unique and empathetic approach to her practice.

  • Education:

Jenny is a Registered Psychotherapist through the CRPO and holds a Masters in Counselling Psychology. She also holds a BA in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology and Family & Child Studies from the University of Guelph. Jenny's educational journey continues with acceptance into a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology program, set to begin in May 2024.

    Therapeutic Approach:

Jenny emphasizes personalized therapy, rejecting a "one-size-fits-all" approach. She values each client's unique life story and tailors the therapeutic process accordingly. Jenny's approach centers on cultural responsiveness, inclusivity, trauma-informed care, and collaboration, focusing on a client's inner strengths to foster healing and resilience. She employs various therapeutic modalities like humanistic, CBT, internal family systems, narrative, psychodynamic, ecotherapy, experiential, and emotion-focused therapy. Jenny remains dedicated to ongoing research and learning to enhance her effectiveness in assisting clients.

    Experience:

With extensive experience working with typical and neurodivergent clients of all ages, Jenny excels in establishing rapport and understanding the complexities of each unique person. She successfully and eagerly works with clients in an individual, couples, or family dynamic, always prioritizing a client-centered approach that encourages therapeutic alliance and safety. Thus creating an ideal therapeutic space for self-discovery, repair, and optimal mental well-being.

The Support Team

Finnigan- Therapy Dog | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

Finn is our resident therapy dog and farm mascot. He is a Bouvier des Flandres and celebrated his 7th birthday in 2023. You will most often find him napping and snoring very loudly.

Taco Bella - Cuddle Supporter | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

A street dog from Mexico, Taco Bella got her freedom ride to Canada in 2017 and is loving life as a Canadian farm dog. Although she loves being a house dog, she is still not a fan of our cold weather and is a big fan of semi-hibernating in the winter months. You won’t find a bigger cuddle bug and she will often ask for a spot in your lap during session if given the opportunity.

Troy- Welcome Committee | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

Troy had a rough beginning, having been found in a cardboard box with his siblings at the side of the highway. Despite this, you will not find a happier dog. He is a young pup and is still quite rambunctious. So, despite wishing to be our welcome committee, he is often asked to practice his “inner calm” and stays indoors during session.

Copper - Gentle Soul Horse | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

For years, Copper’s job was to give the City of Stratford carriage rides. In 2020, he was given a much deserved opportunity to retire on our farm. Since then, he has been the steady, calm soul in the farmyard and the horse typically used in therapy.

Spirit - Horse, a lovebug with no boundaries | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

Being a younger horse, Spirit is full of beans and is still learning how to respect human clients' personal space. Even though she loves people so much, she is not often chosen to be a part of experiential therapy due to this. Not everyone wishes to be overwhelmed with horsey kisses or have Spirit lean her heavy head on their shoulders.

Lovebug with No Boundaries

Beauty was our senior horse who happily embraced the slow and peaceful life. She was pampered and given the freedom to be lazy every day. In May 2024, Beauty crossed the rainbow bridge and was laid to rest beside her best friend, Clyde, who has been waiting patiently to be reunited soulmate. Beauty will be dearly missed at Hope Valley.

Cat Crew Team | Hope Valley Psychotherapy

Twiggy, Forest Ranger & Nelly
Cat Crew

Our kitties on the farm are a wild bunch. With very different personalities, there is never a dull moment. Of the four, Twiggy the grey tabby and Nelly the white and black cat may sometimes attend session. But rest assured, they will also not be offended at all if a cat-free session is preferred!
